Update: Do Medical Marijuana and Concealed Weapons Licenses go together? One court says yes.

This week the Oregon Supreme Court decided that an Oregon citizen's concealed handgun permit could not be denied because she was a medical marijuana card holder.

The court held that the federal law that prohibits drug addicts from buying firearms does not allow sheriffs to deny concealed handgun permits to citizen's who want both.

This is a victory for not only Oregon citizens, but for concealed handgun and medical marijuana card holders across the country. I suspect this issue will begin to surface in other states that have legalized medical marijuana - including Michigan. It remains to be seen how similar situations to the Oregon case will play out in Michigan.

Certainly, this week's ruling in Oregon will be a rally point for citizens wanting both permits throughout the United States.
